She's growing like crazy, already wearing 6-9 month clothes! She is almost crawling. She gets on all fours and then tries to scoot but ultimately lands on her face. I'm guessing she will be crawling in the next few weeks. To answer everyone's question: No, she is not sleeping through the night, much to my chagrin. It's 3am and she's playing in her co-sleeper right now. We slept for a little while around 12am but now she's in full party mode. We even put a little rice cereal in her bottle at nights. It. Doesn't. Work. At least on my child. Apparently, it's extra fuel. Kinda like Red Bull with her daddy. Thankfully, we still do shifts with her at night. Sometimes we get crazy and keep her in bed with us. The only problem is that we never establish who's going to get her when she wakes up. So when she wakes up, it's like the battle of the wills: who will get her first and who will pretend to stay sleeping? Who should get her first, the one closest to her? Since I gave birth to her, does that ever give me a free pass? Do we decide by a rousing game of Rock, Paper, Scissors? I suppose we should've discussed that before we went down the co-sleeping road.
She had her first taste of carrots and sweet potatoes. She absolutely LOVED them! Something tells me that she's going to be quite the eater. She would get really angry when I took the spoon away. When I brought it close to her, she would grab my hands and hold on for dear life. She sucked down those 3 ounces in record time. It was very cute. Next on the menu: peas. I have a feeling she will love them too.
She thinks the cats are fascinating. Earlier tonight Zoe was next to us on the floor. Samaya kept putting out her hand and Z was rubbing against her. She probably loves the texture of the fur. For the most part, she's very gentle. I have witnessed her pulling out a handful of hair but the cats don't seem to mind. They have no idea what's in store in the next few years.
Samaya is still intrigued with ceiling fans. Her newest trick is blowing bubbles. She also loves guys. She just stares at Rick and thinks he hung the moon. Our friend Bonita watched her the other weekend and she said that Samaya was in love with her sons and husband. She is also quite entertained with her cousin, Karl.
Here's a link of Samaya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVxekxFY8fo

I apologize for the lack of posts as of late. I promise I will try and cut my shower time to 3 minutes and post more often.
Samaya is almost 4 months old! She is so much fun. She rarely cries, only when it's feeding time. I'm pretty sure I know where she gets that from. I'm not gonna mention anything about her dad and how cranky he can get when he needs to refuel.
She's added lots of hobbies to her resume over the last few months. Her number one favorite is staring at the ceiling fan. The other day Rick was in front of her and she was just smiling and laughing. He thought he was the funniest man alive! He moved over a little bit and she was still laughing. He quickly realized that she was being entertained by the fan and not him. He was a bit crushed but I think he's slowly getting over it. She also found her voice. She will talk and sing to you if you start singing first. She eventually builds up to a full on scream. I'm sure the neighborhood canines are somewhere cowering, trying to figure out why their ears are bleeding. It's really cute now but I can only imagine bringing her to the grocery and watching the shopper's reactions when she belts out one of her signature shrieks.
Samaya also loves to watch TV. She and Rick love to watch movies together. I'm proud to say that she watched her first (of many) Bruce Lee movie and was totally intrigued. Yo Gabba Gabba is another winner with her. I like it but it's a little strange. Hey, if it keeps her entertained and quiet, it can't be THAT bad. But those songs do have a way of burrowing in your little head for days.
Samaya can turn over onto her stomach. She stands up, too. One of our friends told us that she will become "bow legged" if she starts trying to walk too soon. I've never heard that one before. Thoughts?
Overall, these past few months have been quite an amazing journey. There's no way to prepare for it. I never thought I could function on 3 hours of sleep, had no idea the laundry and dishes would quadruple and never knew my breastpump has the potential to put me to sleep with it's repeating sounds. But I do know for sure that I am in love with an adorable, cuddly 13 pounder, my husband is the most patient and kind man on the planet and I'm the luckiest, happiest sleep deprived girl in the world!

She's 8 weeks old!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SZud5uGO4OI/AAAAAAAAAMg/YJb647pdK70/s320/IMG_0525.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304006601111167202" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SZud5S9W0cI/AAAAAAAAAMY/HLaCh5nj-HI/s320/IMG_0552.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304006593826181570" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SZud5IEkSEI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/6bQdWBRaFsc/s320/IMG_0550.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304006590903633986" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SZud41CX-lI/AAAAAAAAAMI/Ld_pTqv6Kcw/s320/IMG_0533.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304006585794165330" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SZud4qQHGGI/AAAAAAAAAMA/eyLeK_Idq-k/s320/IMG_0555.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304006582898989154" />
I can't believe how time has flown by. Yesterday she had her 8 week check-up. She is 11 lbs and 11 oz! She got 3 shots and cried like I've never heard her before. I couldn't watch. Rick had to hold her arms. I was in the corner peeking trying to hide my tears.
She's smiling a lot and tries to talk to us. She sleeps on my chest or in my arms and is the cuddliest thing in the world! I love to hear all the cute sounds she makes when she's sleeping. She laughs in her sleep, too. Like full on belly laughs where her entire body shakes. It's the most hilarious thing ever. She loves being naked. Even when she was first born, we would swaddle her and she would break free in no time at all. When we put socks on her, they disappear in seconds. Ceiling fans are the most intriguing things for her. She rarely cries, the only time she does is when she's hungry. Lately, she sleeps about 3 hours at a time. At night Rick and I stay up with her in shifts. One of us stays up til 2 or 3am while the other one sleeps. After that, we switch. It really makes sense to do that so both of us get at least 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. It's fabulous!
I went back to work a couple of weeks ago. The nice thing about our job is that we work alternating schedules so she is with one of us during the week. On Saturdays when we both work, Sean watches her. She loves visiting with her and actually thanks US when she keeps her! That woman is the best!

This sums up our days together

<img style="float:left; Samaya is growing every day and makes us laugh constantly. We decided we no longer need cable TV. She's much more entertaining. At her 1st doctor's appt, she weighed 8lbs 8oz. That was 2 weeks ago. I'm betting she's close to 10lbs. She's a great eater. She takes after her daddy. Her eyes are getting lighter and her hair is starting to get a little wavy.
Florence and Herman came down from SC after Christmas and stayed for about 5 days. It was so nice visiting with them and I know they were excited to meet their granddaughter! We had a great time but it went by way too fast. They were a tremendous help, too. Florence was wonderful! She helped with the laundry, dishes, making meals, shopping and letting me relax and get some much needed rest. They even got Samaya and I out of the house a couple of times! I know Rick was very excited to have them here as well. It's really tough for all of us being so far away from each other. We will definitely plan more trips to SC and I'm sure they will be back to visit sooner than later. They know that they are welcome here anytime.

Happy New Year!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SWLCUmn-0KI/AAAAAAAAAKY/HqjWtwROZ6M/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288002571707797666" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SWLCUZ5IfQI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/_U1IJ4IUty4/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+060.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288002568290073858" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SWLCUJE35uI/AAAAAAAAAKI/GGTKw-wwz74/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+031.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288002563775915746" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SWLCTlyJhlI/AAAAAAAAAKA/paehq4UPaC0/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+027.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288002554302137938" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/SWLCTbri5BI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/GgO22rWRABU/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288002551590085650" />
We hope everyone had a great holiday and New Year's. We are so thankful for all of you! I am especially grateful for Kelly, Sean, Rachel and of course my wonderful husband that were there for the amazing experience of bringing our lovely daughter into the world. Although Kelly had to leave the night before Samaya was born, it definitely got me through the night. She is the best story teller and one of the clumsiest people I know. She had us laughing the whole evening. She is hilarious and has always been a wonderful, loyal friend to me. I've known her since high school. Good times.
I was a bit disappointed with my epidural. It only worked on the left half of my body! It was the one thing I was looking forward to (besides the birth of my child) and it really made me angry that it didn't fulfill it's duty of offering me a pain free delivery. Imagine getting stabbed repeatedly in one half of your abdomen. Like every 3 minutes. For 12 hours. Not fun.
Rick, of course was wonderful! I couldn't have asked for a better husband and partner. He was insanely attentive: getting me chap stick, ice chips, grape juice, etc. He hated the fact that I was in pain but couldn't do a thing to help me. During my contractions, he would rub my feet, let me curse like a sailor and offer his hand for me to squeeze. When he did something that annoyed me, I would just tell him in a lovingly way that it made me want to stab him and suggested that he stop, then I would end it with "I love you!" It was so sweet.
Sean and Rachel were a great pair to have in the delivery room. Great coaches. Thank you both! I am still amazed at how they kept so quiet when my nurse that evening suggested that I might have to have a caesarean, flip flopped on how many centimeters I was and wouldn't really do much until I reached the optimal number of 10cm.
My nurse that morning was great. If it weren't for her, I would probably still be pregnant. She had faith in me and my trusty cervix! I love her. After my first couple of pushes, she told me that I would probably have Samaya in about 45 minutes. I said, "Yeah, I can totally beat that time!" Within 20 minutes she emerged happy and healthy. Rick was so impressed, I hopefully will get out of doing laundry for at least a week or two.
Samaya is healthy, happy and amazes us every time we look at her. All of the pain that I went through was well worth it. I don't think you totally forget but you really don't care once your little one emerges and grabs your heart out of your beating chest. I would do it all over again in a split second. <IMG id=BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282845591889703138 style="DISPLAY: block; If anyone wants to come see us, we would love it! We just ask a few things: please make sure you are up to date on your vaccinations, have 2 forms of ID, a list of 4 references and have completely bathed in sanitizer prior to arriving at the hospital. Oh, and Thursday will probably be the best day to come and see us.
Please send good thoughts and prayers our way!

The walking theory didn't work

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/ST1ZYNhAKOI/AAAAAAAAAFY/n0EhF7eMV8Q/s320/Polaroid+izone+300+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277472610827905250" />
My friend AnneMarie and I went to the mall the other day to try and walk these babies out. She's a week ahead of me. She's having a boy. Her OB won't do anything to help her out (inducing, etc) unless she's overdue. Poor girl! She's had a tough pregnancy. We have already decided that Samaya and Frank IV (or quattro, as they jokingly call him) will make an adorable couple but we'll be patient and start with playdates, then go from there.
We probably walked 2 1/2 hours around the mall and neither of us had one sign of birthing these babies out any sooner. You should see the looks we got! People knew we were on a mission.
It's funny how people don't actually look at your faces anymore. Their eyes just go straight to the belly. Had I known that I wouldn't have spent the extra 5 minutes putting on mascara and lip gloss. I bet if we polled 100 people at the mall and asked what color our eyes were, they wouldn't have a clue. Now I know how Pamela Anderson feels. It was pretty funny watching people's expressions. They would look at her belly, then mine, then had a look of excitement, sympathy or pure horror.
Almost everyone is much nicer when you're pregnant. People open doors for you. They scold you if the bag is too heavy to carry. They look at Rick as if to say, "Nice job!" They are full of opinions. I went to a birthday party this weekend and one of the ladies there was saying that I would definitely have her in the next few days. I was so excited! Then she proceeded to tell me it was because I had dark brown lines under my eyes. Um, thanks. I'm just really tired though. You try to sleep when you have someone inside you doing Tae Bo and punching you in the bladder, ribs and kidneys. I bet you'd look a bit haggard in the morning too.
In the hopes that she does come early, I think we're as prepared as we're going to be. My nesting days are about over. I really want to paint Rick and Samaya's bathroom but I am too lazy to do it. I went to the store and bought lots of groceries. We are having our new couches delivered tomorrow. Her room is all set. I do need to wash the sheets (again) because I have a suspicion that our cat Zoe slept in the crib. There was cat hair on the blanket and sheet and I remember looking for her the other night and just gave up. I'm glad she thinks we dropped $400 on a cat bed JUST for her. And we spared no expense with the linens and decorations. She probably was very flattered and excited when she saw the bunny mobile.
As my due date nears, It's difficult to call people out of the blue. Anytime I call anyone, they assume it's because of the baby and are grabbing their keys to run out the door. When I miss Rick's call, he's totally in panic mode. When I call Sean, her first thought is "She's on the way to the hospital!" When in reality it's just me wanting to chat about what I read on Dlisted, Evil Beet and Perez Hilton. Lately she answers the phone really excited and hopeful. It's cute. I love her. Then I have to crush her dreams and proceed to ask her mind numbing stuff like when is it safe to dye my hair again. Or if I should wait and get a nursing bra. She told me she sleeps with her cell next to her pillow just in case. I think she will explode when I actually have this girl. I bought a tazer just in case. She's very excited that we're finally reproducing. I can completely understand. I can't wait to meet this girl, also.

2 weeks from today...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 254px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/STcnx3ia0tI/AAAAAAAAAFI/P4TOOS-VgB8/s320/img_0074+(2).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275729226163213010" />

We went to the OB yesterday and I'm barely dilated. Like 1/2 centimeter. Boo. So, when the OB asked if we wanted to schedule the induction I thought I had just won the lottery! She said b/c of her size, they would induce me @ 39 weeks. I almost jumped off the table I was so excited. Paper sheet and all! (Ladies, you know exactly what I'm talking about.)
So the date that we're having her is December 17th.
I can't wait!
Today, Sean came over and helped me organize her room. We washed all of her itty bitty superhero onesies, winter clothes and blankets. She was a tremendous help! She packed the diaper bag, stocked her dresser and then we plotted how to get this girl out earlier than the 17th. I know, I should just be patient but that is a virtue I know nothing about. Anyhoo, her room is all set, the suitcase is packed and we're ready when she decides to make an appearance.
Thankfully, Sean did come over today because I am the most unorganized person on the planet. Rick dry heaves and breaks out into a sweat when he gets near my closet. We actually have separate closets. And bathrooms. That's the secret to our happy marriage. It is already decided that he and Samaya will be sharing a bathroom. He's cool with it. He can actually train her from birth how to put stuff away. I am a lost cause. It will be funny to see more products in his bathroom than just shave gel, bodywash and a toothbrush. I remember when we first started dating and I was taking a shower at his place. I started frantically looking for shampoo and conditioner! It finally sunk in that he didn't have any. Of course not. And if he DID, I'd use it BUT I would be VERY suspicious...

Earlier today, I was talking to a co-worker, Shaun (not to be confused with Sean G or another Sean from work) about Rick and his crazy organizational skills. We were laughing because he's got to be the most detail oriented person at work. He was saying how he probably uses a protractor and ruler to space out his towels. How the viscosity of the massage oil has to be perfect. How he can lift 48 sheets in one swoop. How he calls the manager when he's finished with his shift to see if there's anything they need him to do. Deirdre calls him a Boy Scout. One day they did room checks and they hit mine before Rick's. Mind you, I haven't worked in quite a while so there's probably been 20+ different people using my room. When they looked in my drawers, there was stuff that needed to be carbon dated to be able to identify. Spilled soda. A moldy tea cup. A kitten. Not really, but it was quite a disaster. When they got to Rick's room, everything was in order. His towels were even and folded perfectly. His sheets were neatly tucked underneath the table. You could eat off of his hot cabi. They were puzzled as to how we co-habitate. It's just as much a mystery to me.

I joke about Rick being insanely organized but it's a wonderful thing. His mother Florence has raised one hell of a man. I am so in awe of how she did it, raising 2 boys and working full time. He always talks about how she raised him, from him having to make the bed every day to her just sitting down and actually talking to him. How she let him make mistakes and would say, "That is what it takes to make a man out of you." He told me about how every Sunday they would go on a car trip. It wasn't ever planned out, they would just get in the car and drive. He talks fondly about their ice cream trips to North Myrtle Beach. They always say you can tell a lot about a man by the way they treat their mother. Well, without a doubt Florence, myself and Samaya are lucky girls!

Felicia, you come up a lot in conversation! I loved your grape reference. Rick remembers how he was always surrounded by family and was disciplined by not only his mother but Aunts, Uncles, etc. It really does take a "village" to raise a child. I am so excited that Samaya will have her village. When you combine the families of the Holmes', Vantry's, Singleton's, Dwyer's, Greene's, Hughes', Williams', Jewell's and everyone else I didn't get to mention, this girl is going to be insanely blessed and well taken care of! And hopefully, she won't be able to get away with a thing.

Random Questions

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/STLJyeqCQPI/AAAAAAAAAEw/Js8T0FGKRuk/s320/IMG_0076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274499982664286450" />
Ok, so today I'm going to answer some questions that have been asked during the pregnancy. Since I haven't worked in 6 months my wonderful husband gets bombarded with questions from our co-workers, some quite embarassing. In case you didn't know we both work at the same spa. I will warn everyone, some might not be appropriate for the weak stomach... I will also welcome more questions. Just leave them in the comment section.

"When she sneezes, does she pee a little?"
Um, no. Luckily I've been diligent with my Kegels. Thanks for inquiring though.
"Has she lost her mucous plug?"
Another no.
"Are you sure it's a girl? She's carrying this baby like it's a boy."
Yes. It is confirmed it's a girl. For a while there, we were a bit scared. My first concern was the nursery and how much work Rick put into it. If it were a boy, I guess we could add moustaches to all of the superheroes and just dye all of the clothes blue. He could wear most of the clothes, the dresses would be a little difficult to conceal but I'm pretty crafty. I could just wrap him in a blanket until he's 3. Or try and convince everyone he's Scottish.
"Who's she going to look like?"
That's the million dollar question. It appears it will be a mystery until the end. At this point it's best to just rule out who she WON'T look like: Violet Affleck, Shiloh, Nicole Kidman, Akon, Bruce Lee(sorry Rick, I'm sure you were hoping!) or Eddie Murphy. I know that for sure. My concern (as most of you know) is her hair. I seriously lose sleep thinking about it. I have a crew on call, Deirdre, Sara, Miranda, Courtney, Ebonee and Angelique. I'm counting on you girls! Don't disappoint me! My sister can't wait to see her in puffy pigtails. That I can do. Braiding, not so much. Not with these hamhands. So the other day Sean and her daughter Kaity (who's 9), were talking about Samaya's hair. Sean was saying that she will more than likely have curly hair. Kaity said, "Mom, WHY would she have curly hair? She'll have either straight hair or she'll be bald!" Sean had to explain to Kaity that at one time, Rick did have hair and it was curly. I love that Kate!
"Is she planning on having an epidural?"
Heck yeah. I can't wait for the epidural! I know some people want to do it naturally, that's great for them. I don't have to prove a thing to anyone. I miss those days of the "twilight delivery" where they would just knock you out and deliver the baby. I know some people that are scared of side effects of having an epidural. Whatever. If I'm paralyzed after this, I'll just get a Hoveround with a sidecar for Samaya.
"Does she miss working?"
Haaa. Funny. No. I do miss those 10 minutes between services when I get to visit w/all of my co-workers and catch up on the latest gossip and eat week old leftovers in the Dispensary. I miss changing Henry's music right before he brings his guest in the room. I miss doing couple's massages and trying to make the other therapist laugh out loud. I miss asking Rick to help me change my room over (because I've went over or had to hit the loo) and watching him get flustered because he's got a specific routine and it CANNOT be altered one bit. That extra 2 minutes helping me will put him behind the rest of the day. I don't miss the EDR food, crabby guests or unloading bins. When Rick comes home, I always grill him and ask what's going on with everyone. He NEVER has any good gossip. He actually goes to work and just WORKS. He kills me. Lucky for me I do have a great bunch of friends that will keep me in the loop. Most of the time I find out breaking news before him. Sad.
"Is she going to breastfeed?"
Jeeze, you people are nosy. Of course! I think it's the most wonderful thing you can do for your baby.
"Has she had any weird cravings?"
Yes. Hamburgers. Before this pregnancy I never used to eat hamburgers. I did when I was younger but during my adult years I've probably eaten a total of 5. Before we found out I was pregnant we were in Publix and they were giving out samples of hamburger meat. I thought I died and went to heaven! It was the best food ever! We rarely used to go out to eat before I got pregnant. In the first and 2nd trimester it was a weekly thing. All someone had to do was mention a restaurant and I wanted it. Olive Garden, Cracker Barrel, Panera, Manny's, Sonny's, Chick-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, etc. I bet you didn't hear of any of them closing up shop during the bad economy, did you? Yeah, they can thank me later.

First Baby shower

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/STILgxY2rXI/AAAAAAAAAEo/LvXupTd4wL4/s320/n552726978_1647567_6130.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274290771245575538" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/STILgMvnkJI/AAAAAAAAAEg/vYSLv0Bury8/s320/n552726978_1647563_5180.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274290761408942226" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BsTsydI-cE8/STILf6QKv7I/AAAAAAAAAEY/iAUnxMID-PY/s320/n552726978_1647559_4233.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274290756445192114" />

We had the best time ever! He grew up reading comic books and actually had a conversation with his mother about changing his name to "Skywalker". Seriously.
So when we found out we were having a baby, he wanted to paint the nursery. I thought it was a great way for him to show his creativity as he is a very talented artist. When we found out for sure it was a girl he was ready to get started. The thing he was worried about was that most of the superheroes didn't look very kid friendly. They were dark and harsh and it really didn't fit for a little girl's room. He started browsing pictures online and found this particular artist that draws lots of kid superheroes. We both loved the idea of superheroes toned down a little. The colors were a lot milder, their faces were sweeter and it really fit his vision.

He started drawing Batgirl, Catwoman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl freehand on the walls late one night. The days and weeks passed and the transformation was incredible! Here are some pictures of the finished wall. I am so proud! Once Rick finished the superheroes, our friend Brandon came over and added the background buildings.

Samaya

This blog is for all of our wonderful friends and family to keep up with all of the exciting things coming in the near future.

We are expecting our first baby this December! We are naming her Samaya Elizabeth Adella Vantry. Samaya means "sacred bond" and "commitment". We're planning on calling her Maya. Elizabeth is my middle name as well as my dear grandmother that passed away in 2007. Adella is Rick's mother's middle name. I think it's absolutely beautiful.

As of Tuesday, November 25th, Samaya is already estimated to be 7 pounds. My original due date was December 24th but they've bumped that up a bit because I'm carrying a big girl! She measured in the 75th percentile for her age. They estimated her due date to be 2 weeks ahead, around the 12th. But here's the fun part: normally the hospital won't let you be induced until you're at 39 weeks, regardless of how huge the baby is. So the earliest I will be able to be induced is the week of the 17th. At that point, she will be approximately 8.5lbs. I joke that I'm going to give birth to a toddler! Everyone blames Rick. It's kinda funny. Neither of us were big babies so I don't know why she's so big.

My friend Sean went with us to the Dr's on Tuesday and made me tell the OB what I had for breakfast that morning. It was brownies and ice cream. It just so happened that I made brownies that morning and needed to make sure that they were OK. The ice cream almost fell out of the freezer, I had no choice! I promise it's not my normal breakfast tradition. It's usually a zone bar or a banana w/peanut butter. I swear. It was just pretty funny that the day we find out that our child is a behemoth, I'm scarfing down brownies for breakfast.

If anyone has suggestions as to go into labor early, I will be welcoming each and every option. I've heard the castor oil one. No thanks. I read Evening Primrose Oil and Red Raspberry Leaf tea might help. I've heard the "lots of sex" one. I've heard walking helps. I told Rick that everyday I'm planning on walking to Celebration Hospital (approximately 15 miles away) to see if it will get this girl out. If I'm not ready to have her by the time I get there, I'll just take a cab back home.

It's not like I'm miserable. It's not that at all. I just don't really want to give birth to a 10 pounder if possible. Also, this girl has lots of clothes. Newborn ones. She's got to wear them at least once. There's lots of superhero onesies that Rick HAS to see her in. Maybe I should take up smoking. That will keep her growth to a minimum. Just kidding.

I've been very lucky with this pregnancy. Overall, It's been great. I never really got morning sickness, just a bit nauseous every once in a while, mostly in the evenings. Nothing that a little bit of ginger ale couldn't cure. I've gained 27 pounds so far. The only thing I've had to deal with is carpal tunnel which is pretty common during pregnancy. It caused my wrists and hands to go numb. Being a Massage Therapist, it was pretty much impossible to give a massage when I can't feel my hands, so I've been out of work for about 6 months. The only other funky pregnancy side effect is that I can't EVER breathe out of my nose. It's gotten to the point that it's not cute or fun anymore.

Samaya is very active and is a fan of kicking me repeatedly. In the beginning of the pregnancy you can't wait to feel any kind of movement, now it's just plain ridiculous. She is a strong girl with not many hobbies as of yet. So, kicking is what she specializes in. And hiccups. Rick almost lost it the first time she did that! I've always wondered why they get hiccups in utero. I think it's hilarious. My entire belly moves. It's good stuff. My theory as to why babies sleep so much when they're born is because they've been partying for the last 9 months. I would want to sleep all the time too if I've been up for days practicing Silat, playing kickball and plotting my escape. That's some tiring stuff. I need a nap just thinking about it.

Below is a video of her nursery. Rick drew all of the superheroes FREEHAND. He is so talented! He found some pictures online of an artist that draws little superheroes and just went from there. He stayed up late one night sketching it out on the walls. Our friend Brandon added the background.
